Battery choice is the biggest decision on a Sierra EV, and it is not offered the same way across every trim. Here is how the options break down — and what the range figures actually mean once you load the truck.
Three Packs, Not All Available on Every Trim

Denali is the only trim offered with all three. If the Max Range pack is what you are after, that narrows your trim choice to Denali or AT4 before you have considered anything else.
The Range Figures
GM's estimated range reaches around 410 miles with the Extended Range pack and up to 478 miles with Max Range — figures that put the Sierra EV near the top of the full-size electric truck class.
Those are official estimates under standard test conditions. Real-world results move with weather, driving style, speed and load, and cold weather in particular takes a meaningful bite out of any EV's range because battery chemistry is temperature sensitive and cabin heating draws directly from the pack.
What Towing Actually Does
This is the number that matters most if you bought a truck to use as one. Towing near maximum capacity drops range to roughly 40–50% of the normal estimate. On the Max Range pack that still works out to something like 190–240 miles, which covers most trailer trips with a charging stop planned in.
Two things worth understanding about that. First, the penalty is driven as much by frontal area as by weight — a tall enclosed trailer costs far more range than a low flatbed of the same mass, because aerodynamic drag rises with the square of speed. Second, charging with a trailer attached is its own planning problem, since many charging sites are not laid out for a truck and trailer to pull through.

Choosing the Right Pack
- Mostly local driving, cost matters: Standard or Extended on an Elevation. There is no benefit to paying for range you will not use, and a smaller pack is lighter.
- Mixed use, occasional long trips: Extended Range is the practical middle ground, and it is available on both Elevation and AT4.
- Regular towing or long distances: Max Range, which means Denali or AT4.
- Off-road plus range: AT4 with Max Range — though note the 35-inch all-terrain tires cost efficiency, so an AT4 will not match a Denali's real-world range on the same pack.
A Note on Buying Parts for a Sierra EV
Do not shop the Sierra EV as though it were a gas Sierra. These trucks use GM's Ultium architecture, and almost nothing cut or specified for a gas Sierra 1500 carries over — floor liners, body parts and electronics included. An earlier version of this page listed a TPMS sensor for 2007–2016 Sierra and Yukon models as "relevant across the Sierra lineup"; TPMS sensors are frequency and protocol specific and that part has no application here. It has been removed.
Battery pack choice does not change accessory fitment. Liners, bed hardware and interior parts are common across Standard, Extended and Max Range trucks.
