Read the last row twice. The Escalade's 3.0L is a Duramax diesel inline-six, not the twin-turbo gas V6. Someone who orders 3.0L oil and filters for an Escalade gets parts for a CT5 that will not fit anything on their vehicle. The diesel takes a dexosD-specified oil and its own filter, and it has a fuel filter service the gas engines do not have at all.
The clean way to settle this is the RPO label. On most GM vehicles it is a sticker in the glovebox or on the spare tire cover listing three-character codes. Find L87, LGY, LT4 or LM2 there and you are done guessing.
How much oil does each engine take, and in what viscosity?
The 6.2L L87 takes 8.0 US quarts with the filter. The 3.0L twin-turbo takes 6.0 quarts in rear-drive form and about 6.5 quarts with all-wheel drive. Viscosity differs too: the V6 is specified for dexos1 5W-30, while the V8's requirement has changed since 2025 for a large block of model years.

The capacity difference is two full quarts. That is the entire reason people end up short on an Escalade oil change: they buy a five-quart jug plus one, because that is what worked on the last car they owned.
Why did the 6.2L V8's oil requirement change?
GM recalled a large group of L87 engines — 597,630 US vehicles — over connecting rod and crankshaft manufacturing defects, covering engines produced between 1 March 2021 and 31 May 2024. The remedy is an inspection. For vehicles that pass and keep their original engine, GM specifies a switch from 0W-20 to a dexos R 0W-40 oil, along with a new oil fill cap showing the revised specification.
The scope is specific, and it is worth knowing exactly where your vehicle sits before you buy a case of oil.

Do not apply that table by model year alone. If your Escalade had engine work done under warranty, the answer depends on when the replacement engine was built, and the only reliable source is your dealer's record against your VIN. Call and ask before you order oil in bulk.

Which oil filter fits each engine?
The 6.2L uses the ACDelco PF63 spin-on filter, the same family used across GM's Gen V small block V8s. The 3.0L twin-turbo uses a cartridge element that drops into a housing closed with a screw-off cap, which is a completely different service procedure and a different tool.
On the V6, that cap is a plastic or composite part with a torque specification, and it is easy to crack by overtightening with a socket and a breaker bar. It also has an O-ring that should be replaced with the element; a good cartridge kit includes it. Check that whatever you buy comes with the seal.
On the filter part number for the 3.0L, be careful. Aftermarket catalogs and GM's own reference material do not all agree, and at least one widely circulated GM chart lists the same spin-on filter for both engines, which does not match the hardware on the car. Look the filter up against your VIN in the ACDelco or GM parts catalog rather than trusting a cross-reference table — including this one. How different are the spark plugs?
Eight versus six, and a very different job. The V8's plugs sit in a conventional deep-well arrangement under coil packs on each valve cover. The twin-turbo V6's plugs sit in a vee packed with turbo plumbing, charge piping and heat shielding, which is what turns a two-hour job into an afternoon.
Plug part numbers are the single most commonly mismatched item in Cadillac maintenance, because heat range and reach change between engine families and sometimes within one engine family across model years. No part number is published here. Look yours up by VIN in the ACDelco catalog or your owner's manual, and buy the exact number listed — a plug that threads in is not the same as a plug that is correct.
Two practical notes that do apply to both engines. Both are direct-injected, so both will benefit from plugs installed with anti-seize used sparingly or not at all depending on the plug's coating, and both want a torque wrench rather than a feel-based tighten into an aluminum head. And on the twin-turbo, replace the plugs as a set even if only one looks bad; you are not going back in there for a single cylinder.

What maintenance does the twin-turbo need that the V8 does not?
Oil discipline, mostly. Turbocharger bearings run on engine oil at high temperature, so the twin-turbo is less forgiving of a stretched interval or a marginal filter than the naturally aspirated V8 is. It also runs premium fuel as a requirement, not a recommendation.
- Do not stretch the oil change interval on a turbo engine because the monitor has not asked yet. The oil life system is modeling, not measuring.
- Let the engine idle briefly after a hard run before shutting down, so oil keeps moving through hot turbo bearings.
- Watch the charge-air plumbing and clamps at every service. A boost leak on a direct-injected engine shows up as a driveability complaint, not a noise.
- Use the specified premium fuel. Compression is 9.8:1 with two turbochargers on top of it.

The V8 has its own list. Dynamic Fuel Management deactivates cylinders constantly, which puts specific demands on oil quality and on the lifters, and a V8 running an incorrect or degraded oil is a more expensive mistake than a V6 running the same. On the L87 specifically, the recall history above is a good argument for staying exactly on the specified interval and viscosity rather than experimenting.
What about transmission and other fluids?
Both engines are commonly paired with a 10-speed automatic, but the fluid volumes and service procedures are chassis-specific and the published figures vary between total fill and drain-and-fill. This is one to look up rather than assume.
What matters practically: a drain-and-fill moves only a fraction of the total fluid in a modern GM 10-speed, so the number you see quoted for total fill is not the number you will put back in during a service. And the fill procedure on many of these transmissions requires the fluid to be at a specific temperature, checked with a scan tool, before you set the level. If you are not set up to monitor transmission temperature, this is a job to hand off.
The 3.0L twin-turbo AWD cars also carry drive units the rear-drive cars do not, with their own lubricant specifications. Confirm your drivetrain before ordering anything past the engine.
Which parts are actually shared between the two engines?
Fewer than you would hope. Cabin air filters follow the chassis, not the engine, so an Escalade and a CT5 do not share one. Engine air filters follow the airbox. Wiper blades, brake pads and batteries are all chassis parts.

Which engine is cheaper to maintain?
Routine servicing on the V6 costs less in consumables — two fewer quarts of oil, two fewer plugs, one fewer set of coils. The V8 is cheaper in labor for the jobs you can do yourself, because everything on it is accessible and nothing has to come off to reach a plug.
Over a long ownership period the deciding factor is usually not the parts. It is whether the engine was serviced on specification. A twin-turbo V6 on clean oil at the right interval is not a fragile engine. A V8 run 3,000 miles past the monitor on the wrong viscosity is not a durable one. The parts list differs; the discipline does not.
What to check before you order
- Confirm the engine code from the RPO label in the glovebox or on the spare tire cover — L87, LT4, LGY, LGW or LM2.
