Read that last row carefully, because it is the most interesting piece of evidence. Several widely-circulated GM manufacturer-specific code lists run through this range and simply do not include P1400. They go from the P1380s straight to P1401.
That absence does not prove the code cannot appear on a GM vehicle. These lists are compilations rather than complete manufacturer documentation, and GM's coverage across decades and platforms is enormous. But it does mean P1400 is not part of the commonly documented GM set — which changes how much confidence anything you read about it deserves.

Which gives you a decisive test that costs nothing.
Open the hood and look for a DPFE sensor. It is a small plastic or metal sensor, usually mounted near the EGR tube, with two rubber hoses running from it down to the metering tube. Distinctive, and hard to mistake for anything else.
- If your vehicle does not have one — and most GM vehicles do not — then every page you have read about DPFE circuits, reversed hoses and pressure feedback is describing a different manufacturer's vehicle. Stop reading them.
- If your vehicle does have one, then that reading may genuinely apply, and the diagnosis follows the DPFE path.
That single physical check resolves the largest source of confusion around this code.
What the GM Reading Appears to Be
We flag clearly that this section rests on a single source, and we are not going to build an elaborate diagnosis on it.
One Chevrolet code reference gives P1400 as "Cold Start Injection Monitoring." Taken at face value, that would concern the strategy an engine uses during the first period after a cold start.
That strategy exists for a real reason worth knowing regardless. A catalytic converter does very little until it is hot, so a large share of a vehicle's total emissions occur in the first minute or two of operation. Manufacturers therefore run a deliberate cold-start routine — a raised idle speed, retarded ignition timing, and specific fuelling — to push heat into the exhaust and light the converter off as fast as possible.
A monitor on that strategy would check whether it is achieving what it should.
But we want to be straight with you: we could not corroborate that definition against a second independent source, and we could not verify a GM service document naming it. This is the definitive answer, and it is free. A dealer can look up what this code means on your specific year, model and engine, and check current bulletins at the same time. On a code with this much ambiguity, that is not a formality — it is the actual diagnosis.
3. Check the physical evidence
Does your vehicle have a DPFE sensor? If not, the dominant online definition does not apply, whatever else turns out to be true.
And note which module reported the code. A code from the engine module concerns engine systems; one from elsewhere points somewhere entirely different.
What to Do While You're Uncertain
There is a general approach that is sensible regardless of which reading applies, and it costs almost nothing.
- Record every stored code and the freeze frame data before clearing anything. Companion codes are strong evidence about which system is involved — EGR codes point one way, fuelling or emissions codes another.

Why This Happens
Understanding the mechanism helps with every code in this range, not just this one.
The P0xxx range is standardised across all manufacturers. A P0301 means cylinder 1 misfire on every vehicle sold.
The P1xxx range is not. It was deliberately left for each manufacturer to use as it saw fit, which means the same number can mean completely different things on different makes — and frequently does. Ford's P1400 and any GM P1400 are not variants of one definition; they are separate assignments that happen to share a number.
And GM reused numbers internally too, across model years and platforms, with published GM code lists carrying an explicit caution to that effect.
Search engines do not distinguish. A page written about a Ford ranks perfectly well for a code number a GM owner typed. That is why the physical check — does your vehicle even have the part being described — is worth more than any amount of reading.
